What your typical day looks like:
- Demonstrate leadership across the IT Operations Dept. staff to ensure behaviours and culture are aligned to DHU CARE Values.
- Own and manage the IT Operational budget; ensuring value for money is delivered and all IT centric contracts are documented and appropriately managed in collaboration with the Procurement Dept.
- Be the highest technical authority and final escalation point within the organisation for the escalation of technical issues.
- Ensure the IT Operations Dept. delivers a timely and effective IT support function spanning traditional 2nd and 3rd line support functions.
- Foster a close working relationship and process integration between our outsourced Service Desk; ensuring regular engagement and operation, as far as possible, as a single service.
- Own the relationship between our out-sourced Service Desk; being the internal champion of its work.
- Deputise for the Head of Digital Systems for the Digital Change Advisory Board.
- Ensure divisional operational demands and requirements are appropriately reflected within the service offered to stakeholders (i.e. aligned). Where not possible, work with stakeholders and the Director of IT & Analytics to offer solutions.
- Ensure customer service and stakeholder engagement is provided from the IT Operations Dept. across the organisation.
- Working with the Head of Cyber Security, ensure actions to support the resolution and continuous improvement of the business’s cyber posture are undertaken.
- Ensure all IT servers and infrastructure components are regularly updated / patched to meet national guidance and industry best practices.
- Ensure all infrastructure components are appropriately licensed against models agreed with both finance and procurement.
- Deliver a fit-for-purpose desktop compute environment.
- Be ultimately accountable for the performance and integrity of all infrastructure; including telephony, networking and servers.
- With the support of the IT Technical Services Manager, IT Infrastructure Manager and Digital Project Manager, plan and implement an annual review and refresh of Infrastructure and end-user-compute assets.
- Evaluate areas of future development, innovation, automation and improvement; providing recommendations to the wider-business.
- Be the subject-matter-expert and IT lead for incident review and lessons-learned.
- Deliver complex subjects to non-technical staff on a regular basis.
- Balance the need to deliver Business As Usual (BAU) against the need to support projects and new implementations across the business.
- In collaboration with the Business Continuity Lead, lead the creation, regular review and testing of the IT Business Continuity Plan.
- Ensure appropriate real-time monitoring, alerting and escalation of outages and performance issues to identified IT staff and service stakeholders.
- Participate in a Digital Senior Manager on-call rota.
- Participate in regional / ICB standing committees and groups.
- As you will expect, the organisation may change from time to time and you will be expected to meet the operational requirements.
- Any other reasonable duties as required from time to time.
To be a successful Head of IT Operations you’ll need:
The job holder will have (summary of the type of experience, general capabilities, skills, knowledge, training requirements, qualifications the ideal person would have)
- Master’s Degree or significant experience leading technical teams of staff within a 24/7, complex organisation (Essential)
- Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer or Cisco Certified Network Professional qualification (Desirable)
- PRINCE2 or APM qualification (Desirable)
- ITIL Service Management or Foundation Certification (Desirable)
- Highly technical background; being able to go ‘hands on’ in support of the wider business if required (Essential)
- Experience of business case development (Essential)
- Previous experience of delivering support and evidence to the Data Security & Protection Toolkit process (Desirable)
- Prior experience of performing and leading security reviews / risk assessments (Essential)
- Ability to lead teams of staff and provide leadership to several team functions (Essential)
- Detailed understanding of the healthcare landscape and national guidance in relation to IT/Digital (Essential)
- Ability to present complex information and deliver effective presentations to all levels within the organisation (Essential)
- Strong negotiation skills; being able to engage with suppliers regarding both contractual and technical matters (Essential)
- Evidence of continuing professional development (Essential)
- Full driving license (Desirable)
How your success will be measured:
- Delivery of support across the whole business against agreed key performance indicators.
- Ensuring the IT infrastructure is able to deliver against operational needs as agreed in advanced on an annual basis.
- Providing a timely reactive response when IT incidents are logged / raised.
- Deliver a pro-active, monitored environment with alerting and escalation where issue arise.
- Ensure operational infrastructure is protected and supports the enactment of the business’s Business Continuity Policy.
