About the role
As a Safeguarding Assistant Practitioner, you will be responsible for working closely with and support the Lead Nurses for Safeguarding Children and Adults. Have a key role in developing and embedding safeguarding knowledge and good professional practice within all sections of the organisation.

Responsibilities:

    Work autonomously as well as part of a team within the organisational setting to provide a service across all divisions which safeguards and promotes the wellbeing of children and adults at risk.
    To oversee the safeguarding referrals generated within DHU Healthcare and their follow up with any resulting actions required.
    To assist in generating audits and reports for development and monitoring purposes within DHU Healthcare and for Commissioners and Quality Assurance Frameworks as required.
    To assist in the development and updating of policies and ensure these are implemented, disseminated, and followed within DHU Healthcare.
    To review and complete any safeguarding Datix incidents, enquiries and reviews relating to NHS111 in the West Midlands.
    Provide support to health professionals on a day-to-day basis to safeguard and promote the wellbeing of children young people and adults.
    Promote good professional practice in Safeguarding by providing a source of advice for professionals working on behalf of DHU.
    Assist in identifying staff training needs.
    Prepare, deliver, and evaluate relevant training appropriate to all levels of DHU staff including medical staff.
    Assist in developing “one-off” training in response to demand and need, where staffing levels permit.  e.g., Recommendations from serious case reviews, complaints and incidents or staff groups requesting specialised training.
    Notify Lead Nurses of any incidents, which may occur and provide detailed information as required.
    Notify Senior Management of untoward incidences, which may impact on DHU.


Essential Skills:
    Registered Nurse or Paramedic with relevant experience
    Significant post registration training/consolidation & experience in at least two healthcare settings, to include aspects of safeguarding (e.g., Pediatrics', A/E, Health Visiting, Elderly Care, Learning Disability).
    Broad clinical knowledge base.
    An understanding of current legislation regarding Safeguarding including Working Together 2018 Care Act 2014 Mental Capacity Act 2005.
    Understanding of the safeguarding process.
    Prepared to participate in service development.
    Effective communication skills.
    Ability to obtain and process information regarding safeguarding issues.
    Demonstrate awareness of accountability in clinical practice
    Effective time management
    Able to prioritise.

Desirable Skills:

    Aware of current structures and developments in health and social care related to safeguarding.
    Understanding of role in policy guidance and standard setting.
     Training / Teaching experience.
    Able to work unsocial hours.
