Assistant Financial Accountant  

Shape your future as an Assistant Financial Accountant with DHU Healthcare!

In this role, you will support the Head of Financial Services in producing timely statutory accounts, returns, and financial reports, while providing essential financial advice. You will ensure that the balance sheet, all financial ledgers, and registers are accurately maintained and regularly reconciled.

You will further develop and enforce financial controls, processes, and policies to minimize risks such as fraud. Additionally, you will provide cover for the Financial Services Team Leader when required.

Competitive salary: £28,407 (Band 5)

What your typical day looks like:
  • Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Daily bank reconciliations and produce cashflow forecast and reporting. 
  • Processing bank payments.
  • Maintain the fixed asset register, calculating and posting depreciation. 
  • Maintenance of financial records including purchase ledger approvals, cashbook entries and petty cash. 
  • Produce accurate VAT returns.
  • Administration of finance systems ensuring appropriate controls are in place.
  • Support Business Partner’s with month end duties, including analysis and journal preparation. 
  • Contribute to the annual budgeting and planning process.
  • Support financial projects.
  • Review, develop and support business processes, to maintain and strengthen internal controls whilst driving for continuous improvement.
  • Support year end audit process.
  • Providing cover for the Financial Services Team as required, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Assisting with training and development of apprentices.
To be a successful Assistant Financial Accountant, you’ll need:
  • Part qualified CCAB qualification – e.g. ACCA / CIMA – and actively working towards full qualification.
  • Good understanding of financial systems, controls and required governance.
  • Up to date knowledge of FRS102 and other relevant accounting standards.
  • Experience of maintaining financial ledgers, producing reconciled balanced sheets, financial reports, cashflow forecasts and VAT returns. 
  • Experienced user of financial systems and Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Experience of supporting audits
  • Experience of being involved in process improvement.
  • Ability to work in a confidential and professional manner.
  • Tenacity to meet deadlines and ensure accuracy.
