Our colleagues are at the heart of our impact and we’re committed to creating a culture where they feel supported, included and proud of the difference they make.

We’re now looking for a Deputy Head of People & Culture to join us on a 12-month FTC to help lead and shape this culture for the future.

The opportunity

This is a senior, strategic role for a credible HR leader who wants to influence people strategy, strengthen organisational capability, and deliver meaningful improvement across culture, engagement and people services.

You’ll work closely with our Head of People & Culture to:

  • Lead key elements of our People & Culture Strategy.

  • Drive excellence across People Services, Employee Relations and Engagement.

  • Provide expert advice on complex ER matters and organisational change.

  • Strengthen colleague experience, wellbeing, belonging and inclusion.

  • Use workforce data and insight to drive performance and improvement.

  • Develop our People & Culture team, fostering capability, confidence and shared pride.

  • Represent DHU in strategic forums, transformation programmes and external partnerships.

What we’re looking for

You’ll be an experienced, values-driven HR leader who can balance strategic thinking with operational delivery. You will bring:

  • CIPD Level 7 or equivalent senior HR experience.

  • Significant HR leadership experience in a complex or unionised environment (NHS or public sector desirable but not essential).

  • Strong expertise across employee relations, people operations, culture and change.

  • The ability to influence, coach and build credibility with senior leaders.

  • A compassionate, inclusive leadership style aligned to our organisational values.

  • Confidence, resilience and sound judgement in complex situations.

Why DHU?

With us, you’ll experience:

  • A supportive, inclusive culture that values your voice and expertise.

  • Opportunities to shape meaningful organisational change.

  • A leadership team committed to wellbeing, development and collaboration.

  • Work that has a real impact on colleagues, patients and communities.

This is your moment.

Join us and help create a place where people feel seen, supported and inspired to make a difference.
