Clinical Governance Clinician

As the Integrated Governance Clinician, you will be part of a skilled team, expected to support the Head of Integrated Governance for the DHU 111 service with the implementation and management of the clinical governance strategy. You will provide support on a broad range of clinical governance and patient experience activities, in liaison with other key professionals and senior managers within DHU. Your role will also involve embedding proactive clinical governance as part of the organization’s vision and commitments to ensure high-quality patient care.

What your typical day looks like:
- Directly line manage members of the Clinical Governance team. Promoting professional behaviour of the Clinical governance staff monitoring communication, grievances, attendance and annual leave processes.
- Promote incident reporting systems across clinical services and ensure incidents are being reported, action is being taken and outcomes are monitored within the services and departments
- Inform the Head of Integrated Governance 111 of any concerns from Datix incident reporting, complaints and Health Care Professional feedback
- Ensure root cause analysis is undertaken for all serious clinical incidents and where appropriate support DHU staff and those who are involved in any incident through the process
- Assist and support the Integrated Governance department, in the processing of complaints, feedback, compliments and incidents
- Supporting investigation leads in the investigation of serious incidents, proving feedback and undertaking quality checks
- Produce high quality documentation in the agreed timescale to support staff by using appropriate software including: Datix, Word, PowerPoint, Adastra, SystmOne, Excel, Outlook, amongst others
- Ensure Datix incidents are reviewed on a daily basis to identify potential SI’s and ensure they have been assigned appropriately, managing and closing incidents in line with Policy
- To assist in the analysis of the database of clinical incidents, complaints, patient feedback and clinical negligence claims to identify trends and work with staff to identify and resolve problems
- Liase with other agencies which require additional investigation reports to support with their SI investigations such as EMAS, NEMS, SCAS and the Coroner (for all the regions DHU 111 covers). These investigation reports all require clinical input
- Provide cover for the Head of Clinical Governance as required
To be a successful Clinical Governance Clinician you’ll need:
- Clinical professional qualification – first level registered nurse or other allied health professional
- Degree or equivalent qualification or equivalent experience
- An understanding of medical terminology and clinical presentations
- Understanding of legal principals relating to patient care, clinical negligence and professional codes of conduct
- Working knowledge of clinical risk management, clinical governance, effectiveness and service quality issues
- Broad understanding of the NHS and CQC external regulatory environment
- Able to work at strategic and operational level autonomously
- Able to collect, understand, analyse and summarise qualitative and numerical data
- Proven track record in prioritising a busy workload – being able to prioritise competing demands
- Ability to prepare reports for a variety of audiences with accuracy and attention to detail.
