Location: Derby, Chesterfield, or Oldbury with flexibility to travel between sites
Hours: 37.5 per week

About the role:

As 111 Deputy Training and Development Manager, you will support and deputise for the Training and Development Manager, overseeing the delivery of NHS Pathways training, coaching, and development initiatives for our 111 service. You’ll ensure our training team remains compliant, delivering high standards of patient assessment training, while contributing to wider quality assurance and workforce development programmes.

You will actively engage in rota planning, auditing, coaching, performance initiatives and support a culture of continuous improvement across our training teams.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Deputising for the Training & Development Manager, ensuring first-class support to NHS 111 operations
  • Delivering and overseeing NHS Pathways training, audits, coaching, and assessment processes
  • Observing and supporting trainers in line with NHS Pathways licence compliance
  • Contributing to staff retention, performance improvement, and quality assurance initiatives
  • Managing, supporting and developing the training team, including 1:1s, appraisals, and absence management
  • Participating in rota planning, workforce management processes, and business continuity planning
  • Communicating effectively with internal stakeholders at all levels to support training and operational needs

What we’re looking for:

Essential criteria:

  • Accredited NHS Pathways Trainer
  • Minimum of 4 years NHS experience, ideally within NHS 111
  • At least 6 months experience in a Training and Development leadership or management role
  • Comprehensive IT skills, including Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and proven ability to manage competing priorities
  • Flexibility to work across a 24/7 service, including weekends and bank holidays where required
  • A genuine commitment to quality improvement and embedding the DHU CARE values in everyday practice
